Governance Committee Update: Curriculum Committee
As a developing program, the MCW School of Pharmacy has leaned heavily on it’s Curriculum Committee. This group of talented faculty and staff have been very busy over the last two years! We at “The Script” want to share more about this committee and what they have been working on recently. Look for updates from our other governance committees in this space soon!
The Curriculum Committee is one of four standing faculty governance committees at the Medical College of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy whose responsibilities have been defined in the School’s bylaws. They can be summarized as follows:
Develop a coherent curriculum to meet or exceed expectations of professional pharmacy education in terms of framework and acquired competencies.
Review and approve course content/syllabi.
Review curricular structure.
Evaluate and rectify redundancies and/or gaps in course content.
Perform assessment-driven curricular revision on an annual basis.
The Committee has recently revised the School’s Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and ACPE Appendix 1 Competencies. We now have 20 EPAs that are better aligned with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy’s (AACP) recommendations. Our Appendix 1 competency levels have also been fine-tuned to reflect students’ gradual progression through the program.
One of the next steps in this important process is to ensure our assessments in Experiential Education are aligned to these recommendations. In the future, you may notice a difference in our evaluations and rubrics. If you have any feedback on the current state of our evaluations and rubrics, please contact the Office of Experiential Education at pharmacyEE@mcw.edu.
