MCW School of Pharmacy Inaugural Students Provide Health Screening at Community Event

The MCW School of Pharmacy students offered free blood pressure screening and education on heart healthy practices to members of the community at the Next Door Milwaukee 29th annual Walk for Children. The Walk for Children is Next Door's largest event of the year and aims to raise community awareness and funding for the critical early childhood education programs they offer to families in Milwaukee's central city.

The School of Pharmacy hosted a booth at the event to outreach to the community and offer a free health screening to the local medically underserved population. Seven students from the inaugaural class along with School of Pharmacy faculty took blood pressures, educated community members on the effects of high blood pressure and offered some healthy living information to help community members combat or prevent hypertension. In addition, the students offered educational activities and handouts to children in attendance at the event that promote healthy living and nutritional habits. The School of Pharmacy also aimed to bring about awareness of the expanding role of the pharmacist and their ability to assist patients in monitoring and managing hypertension.
