Hello! I am excited to start as the MCW School of Pharmacy Director of Experiential Education on January 1, 2023.
As I begin this new role, I would like to share a little bit about my background. I attended pharmacy school at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. Upon graduation, I moved to Wichita, KS to complete my PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Via Christi Hospitals, Inc.
After residency, I worked as a clinical pharmacist at Ascension Wisconsin St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, WI, and later moved to La Crosse, to join the Mayo Clinic Health System where I planned to work in a hospital setting for the remainder of my career. That is until I discovered my true passion is teaching – students, residents, nurses, doctors, other pharmacists, anyone and everyone. With the encouragement of friends, family, and colleagues, I made the leap into academia.
I moved to East Texas to work as the Director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) at the University of Texas–Tyler Fisch College of Pharmacy. While I have loved working with students and preceptors in this role, I am excited to get back up North to Wisconsin, which has always felt like home.
It became apparent, working in experiential education, that this is where my passion lies. Not only do I love working with students and watching them grow into pharmacists, I also enjoy working with preceptors and providing preceptor development. My areas of interest include growth mindset, APPE readiness, and professional identity formation. Outside of pharmacy, I enjoy doing craft projects – I especially love to crochet. Additionally, I am excited to be back in Wisconsin to start curling again. With no ice in Texas, I had to put this activity on hold. I look forward to getting to know y’all as we begin working together in January.
